Why Are Car Fluids Important?

When caring for your Mercedes-Benz, there are a lot of things to keep up with. That’s why our team here at Mercedes-Benz of Southampton will take the work off your hands to ensure your car drives like new for as long as possible. One important aspect of keeping your vehicle running well is making sure all fluids are replenished at the right time.

Most people know about changing their car’s oil since it is a relatively frequent service. A well-oiled engine will perform smoothly while avoiding damage and wear. But there are also other important car fluids that you shouldn’t ignore.

  • Transmission Fluid: In the same way that oil lubricates your car’s engine, transmission fluid keeps your transmission lubricated. When you get your transmission fluid changed at the right times, you can continue to enjoy smooth gear changes and great performance. If you don’t get this service on time, you risk breaking your transmission, which is a costly repair. This service should be done every 30,000 to 60,000 miles depending on the model, so be sure to check your owner’s manual.
  • Brake Fluid: your braking system largely relies on brake fluid to provide the hydraulic pressure that sets your brake parts into motion. Your car’s brake fluid runs through the brake lines and provides the pressure that allows your car to come to a complete stop. This service should be done roughly every 20,000 miles on Mercedes-Benz cars.
  • Coolant: this fluid is also called antifreeze because it both keeps your engine from overheating and from freezing during winter weather. Be sure to check your owner’s manual for this one since the frequency for changing this fluid varies widely among each model.
