About Manorville, NY:
The hamlet of Manorville was given its current name in 1844 when the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) built a station and named it "St. George's Manor". The station agent detested the label "St. George's Manor" because of its association with the English monarchy. One day, he painted over the sign leaving just the word "Manor". The Post Office changed the name to Manorville, and that name lasted.
